Youth Critically Injured in Accidental Dynamite Blast in Boudh District

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a young man sustained critical injuries after a dynamite blast occurred in his hand in Kusashinga village under Harbhanga police limits in Odisha’s Boudh district on Saturday.

The injured youth has been identified as Sachidananda Mahakud, a resident of the same village. According to local sources, Sachidananda frequently used dynamite to break large stones on his agricultural land. On the day of the incident, while he was handling dynamite to carry out blasting work in his field, the explosive accidentally went off in his hand.

The blast resulted in severe injuries to his right hand, while his head and other parts of the body also suffered significant damage. Hearing the explosion, his family members and villagers rushed to the spot and immediately shifted him to Harabhanga hospital for emergency treatment.

Medical staff at Harabhanga administered initial care, after which he was transferred to Boudh District Headquarters Hospital in a 108 ambulance. However, as his condition worsened, doctors referred him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.

His family, visibly shaken by the incident, stated that Sachidananda had used such explosives in the past without issue. Police are investigating the matter to determine whether proper safety measures and legal permissions for handling explosives were in place.

The incident has raised concerns over the use of dynamite by individuals for non-commercial purposes in rural areas, especially without adequate training or supervision.
