Odisha Exceeds Plantation Target, Plants Over 1 Crore Saplings in a Day

Bhubaneswar : Odisha has set a new benchmark in environmental conservation by planting over 1 crore saplings in a single day, surpassing its target of 75 lakh under the nationwide campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. The initiative was launched to celebrate the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated the people of Odisha for their wholehearted participation. In a tweet, he described the achievement as a “fitting tribute to the Prime Minister and a lasting gift to Mother Earth,” thanking nearly 25 lakh participants across the state who took part in the drive. The plantation effort covered more than 41,000 sites across all 30 districts.

Among the districts, Sundergarh emerged as the top performer, planting an impressive 14,21,618 saplings. Koraput followed with 11,01,624, and Keonjhar secured third place with 10,42,927. Mayurbhanj and Kalahandi districts stood fourth and fifth, recording 9,17,659 and 7,67,510 saplings respectively. Deogarh ranked the lowest with 1,31,885 plantations by 4:30 p.m.

The remarkable feat not only underscores Odisha’s commitment to climate action but also showcases the power of collective participation in building a greener and healthier future.
