ACME Group and Japan’s IHI Join Hands for Green Ammonia Project in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: India’s ACME Group has partnered with Japan’s IHI Corporation to set up a 0.4 million tonnes per year green ammonia plant at Gopalpur, Odisha. The project, under the joint venture ACME Clean Energy Private Limited, has already secured land and completed the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED). ACME Group will hold a 70% stake, while IHI will own 30%.

Global Investment and Export Focus

The facility will be financed through a mix of external debt from Japanese Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), international financial institutions, and equity contributions from both partners. Once operational, the green ammonia will primarily be exported to Japan to support its power and chemical sectors, contributing to Japan’s long-term decarbonization strategy.

Strategic Location Advantage

ACME Group Chairman Manoj Kumar Upadhyay emphasized Odisha’s strategic benefits for renewable energy and exports. He said the project would help strengthen energy security, create jobs, and boost India’s role in the global clean energy transition. Gopalpur’s port connectivity and industrial ecosystem make it an ideal hub for green hydrogen and ammonia development.

ACME Group’s Renewable Energy Leadership

Established in 2003, ACME Group has evolved from telecom energy solutions to becoming a leader in solar power and sustainable technologies. With this joint venture, the company is expanding its global footprint in green hydrogen and ammonia production, aligning with India’s target to emerge as a key supplier of clean fuels.

A Step Towards India’s Green Future

The ACME-IHI partnership represents one of the largest foreign collaborations in India’s renewable energy sector. By producing 0.4 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, the project will strengthen Indo-Japanese energy ties, accelerate decarbonization, and support India’s ambition to be a global hub for green fuels.
