Missing 8-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Bhadrak Canal

Bhubaneswar : The search for an 8-year-old girl, who went missing from Radhanathpur village under Basudebpur municipality in Bhadrak district, ended in tragedy on Thursday when her body was recovered from the nearby Coast Canal.

The girl had disappeared on Saturday while playing with her sister near their home. Following her suspected abduction, a massive search operation was launched under the supervision of Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout, Additional SP, and SDPO. Teams from Basudebpur, Chudamani, and Nayakanidihi police stations, along with the Odisha Rapid Action Force (ORAF) and fire brigade personnel, were deployed. Investigators also collected forensic samples and reviewed CCTV footage in an effort to track down the perpetrator.

Eastern Range DIG Pinak Mishra visited the site to oversee the probe. Despite the intensive search, the grim discovery was made only on Thursday, with police suspecting that the child had been murdered before her body was dumped in the canal.

The incident has sparked outrage and grief in the area, with locals demanding swift justice. Police have assured that they are pursuing all possible angles and intensifying efforts to identify and arrest those responsible.
