Odisha felicitates sprinter Animesh Kujur on National Sports Day

Bhubaneswar : The Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) and Odisha Athletics Association (OAA) jointly felicitated promising sprinter Animesh Kujur on National Sports Day, recognising his historic achievement of becoming the first Indian male sprinter to qualify for the World Athletics Championship 2025 in Tokyo.

As encouragement, both associations presented Kujur with cheques of Rs 50,000 each, amounting to Rs 1,00,000 in total. Leaders of both bodies assured full support for his journey, calling his feat a proud moment for Odisha and India.

The ceremony also honoured several eminent personalities for their contributions to sports. Among them were Olympian Anuradha Biswal, former international footballers Gitanjali Khuntia and Gayatree Mallick, ex-Indian women’s team coach Md. Shahid Jabba, and veteran marathon runner Dr. Bibekananda Tripathy.

The event was attended by senior officials of OOA and OAA, who expressed confidence that Kujur’s participation in Tokyo will inspire future athletes.
