Constable’s Murder Shocks Odisha: Husband Revealed as Accused

Bhubaneswar : Chilling details have surfaced in the murder of 25-year-old Subhamitra Sahu, a female traffic constable who had gone missing from Bhubaneswar on September 6. Her body was found buried in a forest near Kusunpur under Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district today, exposing a sinister murder plot.

In a shocking twist, police revealed that the key suspect, Deepak Rout — initially believed to be her lover and colleague — was in fact her husband. Their marriage certificate, unearthed during investigation, confirmed that the two had tied the knot on July 25 last year. This was Rout’s second marriage.

Investigations revealed that Deepak had lost his first wife under suspicious circumstances. Though he projected her death as an accident, allegations of foul play surfaced. Deepak allegedly collected an insurance payout of Rs 1 crore after her death. With Subhamitra, he reportedly hatched a similar plan — marrying her and then plotting to kill her to claim insurance benefits again.

During interrogation, Deepak confessed to strangling Subhamitra inside a car in Bhubaneswar. He later transported her body to a forested area in Ghatagaon, where he buried it with the help of two aides. He has since been arrested, and police are now tracking his accomplices.

Initially, suspicions arose after call data records showed frequent conversations between Deepak and Subhamitra. Acting on this lead, Keonjhar Police, with the help of a special squad, traced the last call location and recovered her body.

Subhamitra had gone missing after completing her duty with the Commissionerate Police on September 6. Her family, worried by her disappearance, lodged a formal complaint that set the probe in motion. What began as a missing case has now unravelled into a chilling murder with layers of deceit, betrayal, and greed.
