31 Coaches Appointed in Odisha to Power Sports Growth
Khelo India Scheme takes lead in boosting training and infrastructure

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s grassroots sports scene has received a major boost with the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports approving 31 new coaching positions. Union Sports Minister Mansukh L. Mandaviya informed the Lok Sabha that 22 coaches will serve under the Khelo India Scheme, focusing on infrastructure, training, and talent identification. The remaining nine will be deployed through Sports Authority of India (SAI) schemes.
Responding to Koraput MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, the Minister clarified that funding is allocated scheme-wise, with infrastructure maintenance handled by implementing agencies. Over the past four years, sports development allocations ranged from Rs 1,907 crore to Rs 2,520 crore.
Alongside Khelo India, schemes such as National Sports Awards, cash incentives for medal winners, and welfare programmes aim to expand participation, enhance facilities, and foster future champions from Odisha’s rural and urban centres alike.
