Odisha Aims for Self-Reliant Energy Future

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s clean energy transition gained momentum on Monday as Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo reviewed two flagship initiatives — PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM. Both aim to boost renewable adoption in households and agriculture.

Under PM Surya Ghar, 1,28,336 applications have been received, with 1,27,820 approved and 33.6 MW capacity installed. PM-KUSUM has secured approval for 50 MW capacity from the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Singh Deo urged faster grievance redressal, especially cases from the Chief Minister’s portal, and ordered strict vendor performance reviews with deregistration for underperformers.

Senior officials from the Energy Department, OREDA, and TP Central Odisha presented updates and plans to scale up implementation. The government aims to ensure renewable energy benefits reach citizens quickly, reinforcing Odisha’s position as a leader in decentralised clean energy deployment.
