Coastal MSMEs Get No Special Cyclone Package

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s government is pushing for equitable industrialisation across Odisha, but Parliament data reveals 11 districts still trailing behind. These include Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Subarnapur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Gajapati, and Mayurbhanj.

Responding to MP Dr. Sasmit Patra, Union Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje said these districts host 4,23,760 MSMEs employing 20,07,989 people. Gajapati has the lowest number at 18,000 units, followed by Malkangiri (18,431) and Nuapada (19,513).

In 2024–25, banks disbursed Rs 44,950.44 crore to 3.66 lakh MSME accounts in Odisha. Under PMEGP, 1,867 micro enterprises received Rs 53.42 crore, while Rs 9,683 crore was sanctioned under the Credit Guarantee Scheme.

The Minister confirmed no special loan packages exist for cyclone-hit coastal MSMEs. While central schemes promote entrepreneurship, bridging the industrial gap between advanced and lagging districts remains a key challenge.
