Fisherman Missing After Boat Capsizes in Ganjam
Six Others Swim to Safety off Podampeta Coast
Bhubaneswar : A fisherman went missing after a fishing boat carrying seven people capsized near Podampeta coast on Thursday morning. Six others managed to swim to safety.
The missing fisherman has been identified as A. Kaleya, a resident of San Nolia Nuagaon under Chhatrapur block.
Reports said Kaleya and six others set out to sea around 4 am for fishing. As the boat entered the waters near Podampeta, it lost balance and overturned, throwing all seven into the sea. While six fishermen managed to cling back to the boat and save themselves, Kaleya could not be traced.
The Indian Coast Guard and local officials have launched a rescue operation, but his whereabouts remain unknown.
Chhatrapur MLA Krushnachandra Nayak rushed to the spot, met authorities, and assured villagers that every effort is being made to trace the missing fisherman.
