CM Mohan Majhi Hikes Compensation for Wildlife Attack Victims to ₹10 Lakh
Additional support announced for property damage in forest-adjacent villages under Antyodaya Scheme

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to support families affected by wildlife attacks, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an increase in the compensation amount for deaths caused by such incidents. The compensation has been raised from ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh per case.
This decision comes in light of the frequent human-wildlife conflict in villages located near forest areas, which often results in the tragic loss of life and damage to property. The Chief Minister emphasized that the enhanced compensation aims to offer more meaningful support to the affected families.
Alongside the hike in death compensation, the state government will also offer comprehensive aid for property damage. If a residential house is destroyed due to a wildlife attack, the victim's family will be eligible for a new home under the Antyodaya Housing Scheme or receive equivalent financial assistance.
Furthermore, the government will provide ₹3,000 in compassionate assistance for damage to kitchens, grain storage rooms, or cattle sheds. In cases where compound walls or concrete structures are damaged, victims will receive ₹5,000 per meter of damage, up to a maximum of ₹25,000.
The Chief Minister stated that these measures are part of a broader strategy to strengthen support systems in vulnerable regions and reduce the long-term impact of wildlife conflicts on rural communities.
