Odisha CM Lays Foundation for IMFA’s Green Ferro Chrome Plant at Kalinga Nagar
New facility to boost Odisha’s industrial growth and support India’s net-zero mission

Bhubaneswar : Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today laid the foundation stone for Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Ltd’s (IMFA) upcoming high-tech ferro chrome plant at Kalinga Nagar, Jajpur. This strategic expansion is set to further strengthen Odisha’s industrial ecosystem.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Industries Minister Shri Sampad Chandra Swain, Co-operation Minister Shri Pradeep Bal Samanta, Jajpur MP Shri Rabindra Narayan Behera, and other dignitaries. IMFA, founded by the late Dr. Bansidhar Panda, remains a key player in Odisha’s industrial development.
The new facility will cover 124.26 acres and produce 100,000 metric tonnes of ferro chrome annually. Phase 1 of the project is expected to be operational by Q1 FY 2026–27. Once completed, the plant will increase IMFA’s total production capacity to 3,84,000 tonnes per year, enhancing its status as India’s top value-added ferro chrome producer.
IMFA Managing Director Shri Subhrakant Panda emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable development. As part of this vision, IMFA has partnered with JSW Green Energy to power the plant with 110 MW of hybrid renewable energy. This eco-friendly initiative supports India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
The project highlights Odisha’s growing appeal as a green industrial hub and sets a benchmark for responsible industrialization in India.
