Roof Collapse at Koraput Market Complex Sparks Panic
Cracking sounds preceded collapse

Bhubaneswar : Panic spread near Koraput bus stand on Saturday after the roof of a market complex suddenly caved in, raising fears that several people might be trapped under the rubble. Witnesses said loud cracking sounds were heard before the structure collapsed, giving some a chance to escape.
The complex housed three shops—a bakery, a betel shop, and a lassi shop—where shopkeepers and customers were present during peak business hours. Many were caught off guard as the roof gave way without warning.
Teams from Fire Services, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and local police rushed to the spot and began intensive rescue operations. One injured person has already been pulled from the debris and shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital.
Authorities have not confirmed the total number of people trapped or casualties. Efforts are continuing to clear the debris and secure the site as rescue teams work round the clock. Further updates are awaited.
