Knife attack near Jagannath Temple triggers panic in Puri

Bhubaneswar : Puri witnessed a shocking incident today when two persons were injured in a knife attack close to the Jagannath Temple, spreading panic among locals and devotees.

According to reports, bike-borne miscreants reached the North Gate (Uttar Dwar) of the 12th-century shrine this afternoon and attacked Gourang Sahu of Markandeswar Sahi and his nephew Santosh Kumar Sahu with sharp weapons.

The assailants fled immediately after the assault, leaving the uncle-nephew duo with multiple injuries. Both were rushed for medical attention as locals gathered at the scene in shock.

On being informed, Singhadwar police reached the spot, collected evidence and began examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the temple. A manhunt has been launched to trace the attackers.

Preliminary investigation suggests the attack may be linked to previous enmity involving the Sahu family. Sources indicated a possible business rivalry between the family and others in the Markandeswar area of the holy town.
