Home Guard Killed by Speeding Truck in Cuttack
Locals Stage Protest Demanding Justice and Better Traffic Regulation

Bhubaneswar : Tension gripped Odisha’s Cuttack city today after a woman home guard was killed in a tragic road accident, prompting angry locals to launch a protest demanding justice and improved traffic regulation.
The incident took place on the Taladanda road near Chhatra Bazar, a bustling area in Cuttack, where the victim, Manorama Panda—posted at Malgodown police station—was returning home on her bicycle after buying groceries. A speeding truck hit her from behind, crushing her to death on the spot, eyewitnesses said.
Following the incident, Malgodown police reached the site, seized the vehicle, and detained the driver for interrogation. The body has been sent for postmortem, and a case has been registered.
Locals and market vendors condemned the poor traffic enforcement in the area and demanded immediate action, including stricter control of heavy vehicles in busy zones and compensation for the victim’s family.
