Man Arrested for Raping Intellectually Disabled Woman in Pipili

Bhubaneswar: Police arrested 30-year-old Suryanarayan Swain on Monday for raping a 25-year-old intellectually-disabled woman from the same village. The accused allegedly tried to kill the survivor by strangulation before family members intervened. The victim’s father, who lives with her, filed a complaint after hearing her screams while returning from the field. When neighbors tried to catch Suryanarayan, he fled but later threatened the family to withdraw the complaint. Police have registered cases for rape and attempted murder, and the accused is under medical examination.

In a separate case, a woman revenue officer from Teisipur accused additional tehsildar PK Mohanty of inappropriate behavior during heavy rainfall on Saturday. She alleged Mohanty tried to touch her forcibly. Police registered an FIR under sections 74 and 75 of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, and Mohanty has been transferred. He denies the allegations. Investigations are ongoing.
