East Coast Railway Achieves Freight Milestone
100 Million Tons Unloaded in Just 148 Days

Bhubaneswar : The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved a remarkable feat by unloading over 100 million tons of freight within just 148 days of the financial year 2025–26. As of August 26, the zone handled 100.55 million tons, reflecting an 8% growth compared to the same period last year—an increase of 7.43 million tons.
The Khurda Road Division led with 58.1 million tons, followed by Waltair with 25.46 million tons and Sambalpur with 17 million tons. These divisions cater to key industries across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and neighboring states.
ECoR serves major ports like Paradeep, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Gopalpur, and Dhamra, transporting coal, iron ore, alumina, manganese, and bauxite. These commodities are crucial for steel, power, aluminum, fertilizer, and cement industries.
The milestone came 12 days earlier than last year and 23 days earlier than 2023–24, reflecting improved operational efficiency and stronger industry coordination.
Officials credited faster rake turnaround, better connectivity, and modern freight handling practices for the achievement. ECoR reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring seamless, faster transportation of goods to boost India’s industrial growth.
