Kalyani Steel’s Aerospace Project in Dhenkanal Moves Closer to Reality
Rs 11,750 crore investment to boost Odisha’s defence and advanced manufacturing sectors

Bhubaneswar: Kalyani Steel Limited’s ambitious aerospace and speciality steel manufacturing unit in Dhenkanal district is steadily moving forward, with land acquisition and forest clearance processes currently underway. The Rs 11,750-crore project, one of the largest private investments in Odisha’s defence and manufacturing sectors, had its MoU signed in 2024.
The plant is proposed to be set up at Gajamara in Dhenkanal and will focus on producing titanium metal, aerospace components, automotive parts, and advanced speciality steel. These materials are critical to India’s defence and space sectors.
According to reports by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the project is expected to generate over 10,000 jobs, offering both direct and indirect employment. It will also give a significant boost to the local economy and support the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the region.
This will be Kalyani Steel’s first high-value defence manufacturing unit in Odisha, underlining the company’s commitment to strategic industrial growth. Once all regulatory clearances are secured, the project will enter the construction phase.
Officials believe the project will position Odisha as a key hub for advanced manufacturing, while also creating long-term opportunities for industrial development in Dhenkanal and nearby areas. As groundwork progresses, the state is poised to become a major contributor to India’s self-reliance in defence production.
