Home Guard Aspirant Dies During Physical Test in Gajapati

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident during a recruitment drive, a home guard aspirant collapsed and died after completing a physical test in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Wednesday. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an ex-gratia payment of rs.4 lakh to the deceased’s family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The deceased has been identified as Sulanta Misal, a resident of Parisal village under Ramgiri police limits. According to reports, the physical test was being held at Betaguda in Ranipeeth, where candidates were participating in a 2-kilometre run from Ranipeeth to Padmapur as part of the selection process.

Eyewitnesses stated that Mishal completed the run but suddenly collapsed shortly afterward. He was immediately rushed to Parlakhemundi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Chief Minister Majhi expressed deep grief over the untimely death of the young aspirant and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. He directed officials to extend all necessary support and ensure that the compensation is disbursed without delay.

The incident has cast a shadow over the ongoing recruitment process and raised concerns about the safety and medical preparedness during physical endurance tests. Authorities are expected to review existing protocols to prevent such mishaps in the future.
