Odisha Launches Evaluation of DMF Projects in Mining-Affected Districts

Bhubaneswar :  The Odisha government on Monday initiated a comprehensive evaluation of developmental projects funded under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) in mining-affected areas. A preliminary workshop was held at Lok Seva Bhawan, chaired by Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg.

The assessment focuses on Angul, Jajpur, and Jharsuguda districts and aligns with the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) and state DMF rules. The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects in improving the lives of communities impacted by mining activities.

District Collectors joined virtually, while senior officials from departments such as Planning, Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, and others participated in person. International agency Grant Thornton will conduct the study, which will be completed by September 2025.

The evaluation will assess sectors such as healthcare, education, water, sanitation, livelihoods, and environmental protection. It seeks to identify implementation challenges and provide recommendations for more effective planning and execution.

Officials stressed the importance of data-driven decision-making and urged all departments to cooperate fully. The findings are expected to guide future DMF investments and enhance development outcomes in Odisha’s mineral-rich regions.
