Young Mother Dies by Suicide After Alleged In-Law Torture Over Birth of Girl Child

Bhubaneswar : In a heartbreaking incident from Patharpura village under Jaleswar police limits in Odisha's Balasore district, a young woman, Namita Pradhan, reportedly died by suicide following relentless harassment by her in-laws for giving birth to a girl child.

Namita had been married for three years to Ritesh Kamila, son of Jaleswar Municipality’s Vice Chairman, Pushpapriya Kamila. The couple’s happiness turned grim after their daughter's birth. Sources allege Namita faced sustained mental and physical abuse from her husband and in-laws, prompting her to take the extreme step.

She was found hanging at her in-laws’ house around 10 AM and declared dead at JK Bhatt Hospital. While her in-laws claimed it was suicide, her parents allege prolonged torture. Police have detained Ritesh and an uncle-in-law for questioning, and an investigation is underway.
