Villagers Lay Siege to Hospital After Woman Hacked in Kujang
Victim shifted to Cuttack in critical condition; accused thrashed by locals before arrest
Bhubaneswar : Tension gripped Kujang in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district after villagers gheraoed the local hospital following a brutal knife attack on a woman. The victim, identified as Prabhati Rout of Tandia village, sustained severe injuries to her neck, face, and hand after being allegedly hacked by Rajesh Kumar Behera near Patapur railway crossing.
According to police, the attack stemmed from a suspected financial dispute. Locals rushed to Prabhati’s aid, overpowering Rajesh and assaulting him before handing him over to the police. His two accomplices escaped.
Both victim and accused were taken to Kujang hospital, but Prabhati was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, due to her critical condition.
Angry villagers assembled at the hospital demanding strict action. Police have deployed a team to maintain order and investigate the exact motive behind the attack.
