Manhunt Launched After Gangrape Shocks Jagatsinghpur
One Accused Nabbed from Cuttack, Victim in Critical Condition at District Hospital
Bhubaneswar : A horrifying case of gangrape has rocked Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, prompting swift police action. Under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Office, three police teams have launched a manhunt to track down the accused, informed Jagatsinghpur SP Bhawani Sankar Udgata.
According to the SP, “Our teams conducted overnight raids, and one of the accused was arrested from Niali in Cuttack. Efforts are ongoing to nab the remaining perpetrator.”
Reports suggest that the 18-year-old victim was on her way to attend a friend’s birthday party when she was intercepted by two men. While her friend managed to escape, the attackers dragged the victim to a secluded spot and raped her.
She somehow managed to return home, bleeding and traumatized, from just 400 meters away and narrated the ordeal to her family. She was rushed to Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
Following a complaint by her father, police began investigations and recovered a mobile phone from the scene. The victim’s friend and her friend’s mother are also being questioned as part of the probe.
