Youth Hacked to Death in Group Clash During Ganesh Immersion in Ganjam
Police probe underway as past enmity suspected behind late-night violence in Aska

Bhubaneswar : A violent clash during Ganesh idol immersion in Ganjam district’s Seragada village turned fatal when a youth, identified as Chandan Bisoi, was allegedly hacked to death. Bisoi, who was living in a rented house in nearby Kankarada village, was reportedly caught in a violent confrontation between two rival groups.
According to sources, the incident unfolded around midnight when two groups, one allegedly led by the local sarpanch, came face to face during the immersion procession. A group of nearly 25 youths reportedly arrived in cars and confronted the sarpanch outside his residence. Tempers flared, leading to a scuffle that quickly spiralled into violence.
Bisoi, belonging to the rival group, was attacked with sharp weapons, including knives and iron rods. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Locals discovered his blood-stained body the next morning and alerted police.
Police reached the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for postmortem. A case has been registered, and the weapons used in the attack have been seized. Officers said they are probing the circumstances of the clash, including the role of past enmity between the two groups, which villagers claim had a history of frequent disputes.
“The exact cause of the confrontation is still being verified. Further details will be available after the postmortem report,” a police official stated.
The brutal killing has left Seragada and surrounding villages in shock, with residents demanding strict action to prevent further flare-ups. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the area to prevent retaliation and maintain law and order.
