India Hosts 1,700 Global Capability Centers, Leads the World in GCC Growth

Bhubaneswar : India has become a global leader in Global Capability Centers (GCCs), now hosting over 53% of the world’s total. According to a Vestián Research report, out of 3,200 GCCs worldwide, nearly 1,700 are based in India. While cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai dominate the landscape, Bhubaneswar has now emerged as one of the top upcoming GCC hubs, along with Ahmedabad, Kochi, Coimbatore, Indore, Mohali, and Madurai.

Bhubaneswar's rise is supported by a strong IT ecosystem and the presence of major firms like TCS, Infosys, Mindtree, and Tech Mahindra. Odisha’s steady supply of engineering graduates and business-friendly policies further strengthen the city’s position.

Vishal Dev, Principal Secretary of the IT Department, stated that the state aims to develop the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri corridor as a world-class GCC destination under Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047. A dedicated GCC policy is also in progress.

A GCC is a centralized unit set up by global companies to manage functions like IT, finance, HR, and R\&D. These centers help improve efficiency and reduce operational costs. With India expected to add 150 new GCCs annually, Bhubaneswar is poised for a major role in this growth story.
