Elephant Attack Claims One Life, Injures Another in Keonjhar District

Bhubaneswar : A man was killed and another critically injured in a wild elephant attack near Pichhulabeda village under Patna Tehsil in Keonjhar district late Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Biranchi Jena from Suwanpur village in Jajpur district. The injured, 60-year-old Jogendra Bahalia, is also from Jajpur, under Badachana police limits.

Reports indicate that a team of four was conducting a soil survey for a proposed canal bridge in the area. While they were asleep in a tent, a wild elephant attacked. Two members escaped unharmed, but Biranchi and Jogendra were severely injured.

Patna Forest Officer Niranjan Sethi reached the spot and coordinated the rescue operation. Both victims were taken to the Patna Community Health Centre, where Biranchi was declared dead. Jogendra remains under medical care.
