B.Ed. Student Attempts Self-Immolation Over Inaction on Harassment Complaint
Victim sustains 90% burns after alleged repeated harassment, no action from college
Bhubaneswar : In a tragic incident, Soumyashree, a B.Ed. student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, attempted self-immolation in front of the principal's chamber on Friday. She reportedly acted in despair over continued harassment by department head Samir Kumar Sahu and alleged inaction on her complaints.
Soumyashree sustained 90% burns and is in critical condition at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. A male student who tried to save her is also injured.
Students claim her repeated pleas for justice were ignored by both college authorities and police. Demands for strict action against the accused are growing.
