Susmita Oram Caught Red-Handed Demanding Money to Clear MGNREGS Bills
Bhubaneswar : Odisha Vigilance arrested Junior Engineer Susmita Oram of Gaisilet block, Bargarh district, today while accepting an rs 8,000 bribe from a contractor. The amount was the final installment of a rs 32,000 bribe demanded to clear bills for a road improvement project under MGNREGS.
Oram allegedly demanded 10% of the rs 3.15 lakh already paid for the rs 9.5 lakh project. After receiving a complaint, Vigilance laid a trap and caught Oram red-handed. The bribe money was recovered, and simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to her as part of a disproportionate assets inquiry.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway. Oram, who joined government service in January 2024, was serving her first posting at Gaisilet block.
