Odisha Plans ‘New Bhubaneswar’ Over 800 Acres

Bhubaneswar : The Odisha government has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop a ‘New Bhubaneswar’ city spread across 800 acres, designed to offer world-class infrastructure and sustainable urban living.

According to Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, the project will feature modern amenities including well-planned roads, drainage systems, landscaped parks, healthcare facilities, an IT park, residential neighbourhoods, and commercial hubs. The aim is to ease the growing pressure on Bhubaneswar while providing an advanced urban space for future needs.

The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will spearhead the project. Its jurisdiction will be expanded to cover Malipada, Dasapur, Andharua, and Gothapatna, integrating these areas into the upcoming township. The initiative is expected to drive both planned growth and improved civic management.

The master plan for ‘New Bhubaneswar’ has been prepared with the assistance of the Singapore Government, drawing inspiration from globally recognized smart city projects such as the Dholera Special Investment Region and GIFT City. This approach aims to combine global best practices with Odisha’s local requirements.

Dr. Mahapatra emphasized that the new city will not only serve as a residential and commercial hub but also attract industries to boost investment, job creation, and overall economic growth. The design incorporates open spaces, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and green zones to ensure a balanced and sustainable urban ecosystem.

The ‘New Bhubaneswar’ project reflects the government’s broader vision of transforming the capital region into a hub of modern infrastructure, economic opportunity, and improved quality of life, making it a model for future urban development in the state.
