Odisha Government Plans Mega Projects to Transform Cuttack City

Bhubaneswar : The Odisha government has announced a series of development initiatives for Cuttack city, including the construction of a mega convention centre, a new public park, and a designated vending zone, all aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure and public amenities.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held a high-level meeting with local MP Bhartruhari Mahatab at Lok Seva Bhawan today to discuss the city’s future development roadmap. Several key projects for Cuttack and its surrounding areas were reviewed during the meeting.

A mega convention centre is planned to be constructed in the heart of the Silver City, along with a vending zone near OMP Square and a new park at Press Chhak. These projects are expected to significantly improve the city's civic amenities and recreational spaces.

The state government also plans to draft a comprehensive master plan to address Cuttack’s long-standing drainage problems, according to a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

In addition to urban infrastructure, the government is focusing on river and heritage development. Plans are underway for the construction of a new barrage on the Mahanadi river in Cuttack district, along with the integrated development of Satyabhamapur — the birthplace of Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das.

To boost the local economy and revive industrial activity, the state government will also initiate steps to revive the Baramba Sugar Mill and Bhagatpur Cotton Mill.

“The Chief Minister has directed officials to expedite the implementation of all these proposed projects. The government remains firmly committed to the development of Cuttack city and its adjoining regions,” the CMO stated.

Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Industries Department Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma, and Principal Secretary to the CM Saswat Mishra were among the key officials present at the meeting.
