November Deadline Set for Sundarpada–Jatni Four-Lane Project

Bhubaneswar : Public Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan reviewed the ongoing road expansion project between Sundarpada and Jatni, setting a strict deadline for completion by the end of November. The 13.5-km stretch is being developed into a four-lane road to ease traffic congestion and boost connectivity in the capital region.

During a review meeting with engineers, contractors, and local representatives, Harichandan emphasised that the project must not only be completed quickly but also with quality. He directed the officials to prepare an effective action plan and ensure accountability at every stage.

The minister pointed out that road expansion often runs into delays due to issues like drainage, sewage, and shifting of electricity poles. He urged authorities to address these challenges simultaneously rather than waiting for construction to finish. “Road projects should be future-ready and free from recurring problems,” he said, assuring locals that their concerns about waterlogging and safety would be addressed.

The Sundarpada–Jatni corridor is considered a vital link to institutions such as IIT Bhubaneswar and NISER, as well as fast-growing residential zones. Once completed, the four-lane road is expected to reduce travel time, improve commuter safety, and support the region’s economic development.

Locals welcomed the project but urged the government to ensure durable construction and proper drainage facilities. Contractors present at the meeting promised to work on a war-footing to meet the November deadline.

Officials confirmed that weekly progress reports will be submitted directly to the minister’s office, while inspections will be carried out regularly to prevent delays. The government hopes this project will set a model for future infrastructure initiatives in the state.
