Odisha Leaders Urge Collective Fight Against Suicide on World Suicide Prevention Day
CM Majhi and Deputy CMs highlight ‘Jeevan Zindabad’ programme to promote awareness and mental health support

Bhubaneswar : On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida appealed to citizens to prioritize mental health, show compassion, and work together to prevent suicides.
Chief Minister Majhi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), emphasized the importance of creating awareness through the state’s Jeevan Zindabad programme. “Suicide is not the path to a solution; it is a weak mindset. To prevent suicide, our government has launched the statewide ‘Jeevan Zindabad’ programme. On this Suicide Prevention Day, let us pledge to overcome problems, love life, and spread awareness,” he wrote.
Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo stressed that every life has infinite value and called for empathy and support over stigma. “On World Suicide Prevention Day, let us replace judgment with compassion, and silence with empathy. By changing the narrative—from stigma to support—we can build a society where mental health is prioritized and no one feels alone in their struggle,” he posted.
Deputy CM Pravati Parida also echoed similar sentiments, urging people to understand that suicide is never a solution. Highlighting the state’s awareness drive, she said, “No matter how big the problem is, suicide is never the solution. Suicide is a sign of a weak mindset. With this objective, our government’s ‘Jiban Jindabad’ programme is a unique effort to raise awareness and prevent suicides.”
The leaders jointly appealed to citizens to break the silence around mental health, stand by those in distress, and contribute towards building a supportive and resilient society.
