New Rules for Maternity Leave of Women Government Employees
Clear Guidelines Issued for Availing 180 Days of Leave

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has issued clear regulations regarding maternity leave for women government employees, resolving long-standing confusion. As per the new rules, a woman employee can now avail 180 days of maternity leave starting three months before the expected delivery date and within six months after childbirth.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved this proposal. In cases of miscarriage, infant death, or stillbirth, the employee will also be entitled to leave as per specified norms. Additionally, the rule clarifies that if a woman was not in government service at the time of childbirth, she can still avail maternity leave after joining, provided the child is less than six months old. However, in such cases, the leave period may be less than 180 days.
These updated guidelines aim to provide clarity and support for working women during maternity. This is seen as a significant step by the government to ensure proper maternal care and benefits for female employees.
