CM Majhi Urges Private Banks to Boost Loan Support for the Poor
After delisting banks over poor performance, Odisha CM pushes for greater participation in welfare schemes

Bhubaneswar : Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has urged ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank to improve their loan disbursement to poor beneficiaries under various welfare schemes. In a meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan, the CM stressed that these banks must play a more active role in supporting poverty alleviation initiatives.
This comes after the state government removed the banks from its empanelled list on June 21 due to poor performance in schemes like PMEGP, PM Swanidhi, Standup India, and agriculture loans. The bank representatives assured the CM they would soon enhance loan disbursal efforts.
Highlighting the central government's commitment under PM Modi’s leadership, Majhi emphasized the crucial role of banks in reaching the poor. His Principal Secretary, Saswata Mishra, provided performance feedback during the meeting.
