National Conference on SC/ST welfare begins in Bhubaneswar
Leaders stress equality, justice and inclusive development
Bhubaneswar : The two-day National Conference of Chairpersons and Members of Parliamentary and State/UT Committees on the Welfare of SCs and STs began at Lok Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the event, noting that welfare committees have worked beyond party lines to drive policies for Dalits and Tribals. He stressed that proposals from this meet would guide efforts to build an equal and just society.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said Odisha is proud to host the event for the first time outside Delhi in 25 years. He highlighted state initiatives like Tribal Heritage Centres, mother-tongue education, and schemes such as PM Janman and Dhartiabaa Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan.
Union Ministers Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan underlined government schemes in education and welfare, including Eklavya schools and NEP provisions for SC/ST students. The conference, first held in 1976, now returns with renewed focus on inclusivity.
