Modern Automatic Signalling Introduced on Cuttack–Paradeep Rail Section

Bhubaneswar : The East Coast Railways (ECoR) has commissioned a modern Automatic Signalling System on the 83-km Cuttack–Paradeep section of the Talcher–Paradeep Freight Corridor under Khurda Road Division, marking a major step toward railway modernization in Odisha.

The system is designed to enhance capacity, reduce train headway, and allow faster, smoother operations. With real-time monitoring and automatic controls, it will improve punctuality, asset utilization, and service reliability for both freight and passenger trains.

Safety has been a key focus, with 19 Level Crossing Gates now interlocked with the signalling system, eliminating risks at non-interlocked gates. Advanced features such as dual digital axle counters, integrated power supply, LED signal lamps, dataloggers, and Video Display Units at all stations will ensure uninterrupted and efficient functioning.

Dividing the section into multiple UP and DOWN subsections will further increase line capacity and ease traffic management.

The upgrade is expected to boost industrial and economic growth by enabling faster freight movement to Paradeep Port, a key hub for coal, iron ore, fertilizers, and steel. ECoR officials said the development will make the corridor safer, faster, and more reliable, supporting Odisha’s growth as a vital industrial gateway.
