Low-Pressure Area Over Northwest Bay of Bengal May Bring Heavy Rain to Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has developed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal as of 5:30 am IST on September 2, 2025, influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation over the northeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Myanmar coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that this system is expected to become more marked over the region within the next 24 hours.

The low-pressure area is forecast to move west-northwestwards across Odisha, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in several districts. The IMD has issued warnings for Koraput and Malkangiri, expecting heavy to extremely heavy rain today. Other districts, including Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangapur, and Nuapada, are likely to witness heavy rainfall.

Authorities have advised residents in the affected areas to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and take precautions against potential disruptions caused by the weather. Fishermen have been cautioned not to venture into the sea from September 2 to 4 due to rough sea conditions.

Officials are monitoring the system closely and have urged local communities to follow updates from the IMD to stay safe during the period of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
