Bhubaneswar: In a shocking road mishap, a coal-laden truck crashed into a private passenger bus on National Highway 55 at Luhapanka Square under Redhakhol police station limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district. The accident left at least 20 passengers injured, five of them critically.
The private bus, named Gajalaxmi, was in route from Patrapada in Angul to Sambalpur, carrying around 35 passengers. The collision caused a major impact, injuring a large number of people on board.
Local authorities immediately rushed to the scene. The injured were taken to Redhakhol Medical Centre for emergency treatment. Among them, five passengers are reported to be in critical condition and are under intensive medical care.
Police have reached the spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that speeding by the coal truck might have led to the mishap.
