Governor Calls for Green Transition in Odisha
Hari Babu Kambhampati stresses electric mobility, solar energy, and plantation drive at OSPCB event

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati appealed to citizens to adopt electric vehicles (EVs) in the state’s rapidly expanding urban centres to ensure a greener and cleaner future. He was addressing the 42nd Foundation Day of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB).
EVs Key to Cutting Pollution
The governor stressed that EVs are vital in reducing air pollution and dependence on fossil fuels. Sharing a success story, he pointed out that Raj Bhavan has already transitioned its official fleet to electric vehicles, cutting its carbon footprint considerably. He urged other institutions and individuals to follow suit, underlining that the shift to EVs brings visible environmental benefits.
Rooftop Solar for Clean Energy
Alongside EVs, Kambhampati encouraged residents to install rooftop solar systems. He said such initiatives not only lower electricity bills but also promote renewable energy usage, with citizens able to avail government subsidies for installation.
Plantation Drive from September 17
Highlighting another major initiative, the governor invited citizens, especially students, to actively participate in the state’s upcoming plantation drive starting September 17. The campaign aims to plant 75 lakh saplings across Odisha, contributing to climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.
Collective Responsibility for Sustainable Future
Calling for collective action, Kambhampati said that sustainability is not just the responsibility of the government but of every citizen. Adoption of eco-friendly practices such as EVs, solar energy, and mass plantation can significantly improve Odisha’s environment and set a model for other states.
