Skill Development Boost: NALCO and SDI Bhubaneswar Join Hands for Rural Training Programme

Bhubaneswar : National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Mines, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Skill Development Institute (SDI), Bhubaneswar, to roll out a structured skill development programme for youth from peripheral villages around its operational areas. The initiative will be implemented through NALCO Foundation, the company’s CSR wing.

The agreement was signed in the presence of NALCO CMD Brijendra Pratap Singh, Director (HR) Dr. Tapas Kumar Pattanayak, and senior officials from both NALCO and SDI Bhubaneswar.

As part of the programme, 30 youths each from villages near NALCO’s Mines & Refinery Complex at Damanjodi and Smelter & Power Complex at Angul will undergo three months of residential training in various trades. The curriculum will follow the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) under the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) to ensure industry relevance.

Speaking on the occasion, NALCO CMD Singh said the initiative aims to empower rural youth with employable skills and help them secure sustainable livelihoods. He emphasized that the programme reflects the company’s vision of nurturing grassroots talent and creating a self-reliant workforce.

Officials highlighted that this effort is part of NALCO’s broader CSR agenda, which focuses on community development, youth employability, education, and healthcare. The training is expected to open new job opportunities for participants, reduce migration, and support the socio-economic development of the surrounding regions.

By collaborating with SDI Bhubaneswar, NALCO aims to align with the Government of India’s Skill India mission and contribute to building a skilled workforce for Odisha’s growing industrial sector.
