Odisha to Build Futuristic Science City in Bhubaneswar
100-acre project to inspire students, boost research, and attract tourists

Bhubaneswar : The Odisha government has embarked on an ambitious plan to set up a world-class Science City in Bhubaneswar, aiming to make science more accessible to the public while strengthening research and innovation in the state. The project will come up on 100 acres and is being spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology.
Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra has been actively studying models from other states. Last week, he visited the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Science City in Patna to review its design and operations. During the trip, he also met Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary to exchange insights on building large-scale science hubs.
Officials revealed that Odisha’s Science City will feature advanced exhibition halls, digital learning zones, and interactive spaces covering subjects such as space, robotics, biotechnology, and renewable energy. Plans also include state-of-the-art research labs and innovation centers to encourage collaboration among scientists, entrepreneurs, and students.
A high-level committee will soon be formed to oversee planning and execution. Experts from Bihar are expected to assist Odisha in creating a robust and sustainable model.
Beyond academics, the Science City is expected to add to Bhubaneswar’s reputation as a knowledge and education hub while boosting its tourism profile. Authorities believe it will attract students, families, and tourists alike, offering an engaging mix of learning and recreation.
Minister Patra said the project reflects Odisha’s aspiration to lead in science and technology. “This will not only be a hub for learning but also a platform to inspire the younger generation,” he noted.
