Odisha Extends Farmer Registration Period
Move Aims to Ensure No Cultivator Left Out

Bhubaneswar: In a major relief to cultivators, the Odisha government has decided to extend the ongoing farmer registration period. The move is expected to benefit those who could not complete the process within the earlier deadline.
Record Number of Registrations
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said on Saturday that this year has seen an overwhelming response, with nearly 19.66 lakh farmers already registered. Interestingly, many individuals who had earlier abandoned farming have returned to register, reflecting renewed confidence in the system.
Ensuring Transparency
Patra assured that while the registration window will be extended, strict verification measures will also be in place. Registrations done using non-agricultural land—such as government plots, cremation grounds, or temple lands—will be cancelled following field-level verification and survey.
Boost to Procurement and Support
The government aims to bring more genuine cultivators under its procurement system through this extension. By ensuring that only eligible farmers are enrolled, authorities expect smoother procurement operations and better distribution of support benefits in the coming season.
