Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Crack Down on Illegal Pressure Horns

Bhubaneswar : The Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), on Tuesday launched a special enforcement drive against the use of illegal multi-toned pressure horns in the twin cities.

Traffic police officials observed that many large vehicles, including motorcycles, line buses, and city buses, have been using multiple pressure horns, creating excessive noise and contributing to rising sound pollution levels. Authorities said the practice has become a major public nuisance, disrupting daily life in busy areas.

“This drive aims to curb the growing problem of sound pollution caused by unauthorised multi-toned horns. Such horns are strictly prohibited under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, as well as the Odisha Urban Police Act. During the drive, violators will be penalised, and the illegal horns will be seized,” a traffic police official informed.

The official further clarified that all vehicles must use only standard horns approved under legal provisions. Any form of modification, including the installation of multiple or high-decibel horns, will attract penalties. The police also highlighted that unauthorised RGB lighting on vehicles is banned.

“Only standard horns and approved lighting systems are allowed under the Motor Vehicles Act. Vehicle owners found making unauthorised modifications will face strict action,” the official added.

The police appealed to motorists and transport operators in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to follow traffic rules in the interest of public safety and health. The enforcement drive will continue across busy junctions and key routes to ensure compliance.
