15 Dead, Several Injured in Virar Building Collapse
Rescue Operations Continue for Missing Residents
Bhubaneswar : At least 15 people lost their lives and several others sustained serious injuries after a four-storied unauthorized building, Ramabai Apartment, collapsed onto an adjacent vacant slum late. Rescue efforts have continued for over 20 hours, with residents claiming two people are still missing.
According to officials, nine injured victims are undergoing treatment. The collapse occurred between Chamunda Nagar and Vijay Nagar on Narangi Road in Vasai, raising concerns about building safety in the region.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed grief, calling the tragedy “extremely tragic” and extended condolences to the bereaved families. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis termed the incident a serious concern, noting that a prior notice for a structural audit had been issued. He assured strict action following a probe.
Authorities, led by Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation and NDRF teams, continue clearing debris in hopes of finding the missing residents.
