CM Mohan Majhi Launches ‘Zero Accident Day’ Campaign in Keonjhar
State government initiative focuses on road safety awareness, accident prevention, and community participation in mining-affected district

Bhubaneswar : Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi flagged off the ‘Zero Accident Day’ campaign in Keonjhar district, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility and requires active participation from every citizen.
The campaign, organised by the Commerce and Transport Department, is designed to spread awareness and promote road safety across all 13 blocks of Keonjhar. As part of the launch, the Chief Minister inaugurated a ‘Zero Accident Selfie Point’ to encourage public engagement with the initiative.
Highlighting the district’s unique challenges, Majhi said that in mining-affected areas like Keonjhar, where heavy vehicle movement is frequent, strict compliance with traffic rules and vigilance are vital to preventing mishaps. He added that the initiative underscores the State Government’s commitment to curbing road accidents through a combination of awareness drives and safety compliance measures.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed awareness materials and felicitated road safety advocates for their contributions to community welfare.
The launch event saw the participation of several dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar, Keonjhar MP Ananta Nayak, district MLAs, and senior officials such as DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, STA Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, DIG Brijesh Ray, and District Collector Vishal Singh.
Keonjhar is the first district in Odisha to adopt the ‘Zero Accident Day’ initiative after its successful rollout in Bhubaneswar. In collaboration with IIT Madras, a 14-day programme will also be conducted to train stakeholders on accident prevention strategies and road safety practices.
Officials said the initiative is expected to significantly reduce accidents, particularly in high-risk zones, while also fostering a long-term culture of safety and responsibility among road users in the district.
