Keonjhar Mega Steel Plant Land Acquisition to Begin Soon: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar : Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced that land acquisition for the proposed mega steel plant in Keonjhar will soon begin, with the company already depositing the necessary funds.

The ₹40,000-crore project, a joint venture between JSW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO, aims for a 5 MTPA production capacity in its first phase. Two sites—Taramakant and Patna—have been identified for acquisition.

“The process is in an advanced stage. Land has been identified and funds deposited. Preparations are underway,” Majhi said after reviewing development projects in the district.

He emphasized that the project would provide a major boost to the district’s economy and create vital job opportunities for local youth, calling it his “personal mission.”

During his visit, the CM held discussions with MLAs, urged their cooperation for smoother project execution, and flagged off three ambulances and a coconut collection vehicle under the Maa Tarini scheme.

Majhi also reassured that there is no fund crunch for Keonjhar’s development, covering areas such as national highway expansion and critical infrastructure.
